Spanish I
Prerequisites: C average or higher in English 8
Length of Course: 1 Year
Grades 9-12
Spanish I is designed to introduce the basic elements
of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and culture, and to develop reading,
writing, speaking, and listening skills. The culture of the
Spanish-speaking countries is emphasized in order to promote
cross-cultural understanding.
Spanish II
Prerequisites: Spanish I
Length of Course: 1 Year
Grades 10-12
Spanish II is structured to introduce more complex
grammatical structures and to expand the student’s vocabulary.
Additional practice in reading, writing, speaking, and listening is
included to further develop these skills. The culture of the Spanish
speaking countries is emphasized in order to promote cross-cultural
understanding.
Spanish III
Prerequisites: Spanish I and II
Length of Course: 1 Year
Grades 11-12
Spanish III is designed to continue the study of
Spanish grammar and vocabulary and to promote the use of the language in
both oral and written communication. Students write skits, commercials,
stories, and opinion papers in Spanish. In addition, short stories are
read which allow the student to further develop reading, writing, and
speaking skills. Daily conversation is stressed and the study of the
Spanish culture continues to be emphasized.
Spanish IV
Prerequisites: Spanish I, II, and III
Length of Course: 1 Year
Grades 12
Spanish IV
focuses on the improvement of reading, listening, writing, and speaking
skills through the continued study of grammar and vocabulary, the
writing of skits and compositions, and the reading and discussion of
Spanish literature. In addition, students use computer technology to
improve their communication skills and to promote their understanding of
cross-cultural differences.
