Curriculum

Jazz Band
An audition only group that meets before school. The purpose of this ensemble is to explore the different areas of jazz, (ie. swing, funk, blues, rock). Students must be accomplished players to participate.

High School Band
The High School Band program is a very demanding course for musicians. It takes a great deal of time and dedication. The band has three different ‘seasons”, parade and field marching, play at most indoor sporting events for pep band, and perform two concerts and District Music Contests. Previous playing experience is preferred, but not required.  This is a performance-based class.

Junior High Band
Jr. High Band focuses on continuation of fundamentals introduced in beginning band.  Previous playing experience is preferred, but not required. Students will focus on both Marching style music, performing in one parade, and concert band music for two concerts. The Jr. high band has a select jazz band that meets before school one day a week. This is a performance-based class.

Beginning Guitar
Students will learn basic chords and single string notes, to perform simple melodies.  Students must provide their own instruments.

Theatre

Juniors and Seniors (Underclassmen will be considered on an individual basis.)

This yearlong class is designed to introduce students to the theatre arts.  The students will become familiar with; theatre history, acting skills, stage combat, set design and construction, make-up, costuming and performance.  The class will write a children’s theatre script and produce the play for the Mitchell Elementary.
