Curriculum

American History:  Juniors/Grade 11

This spans the years from the discovery of the New World (Columbus) to approximately 1920. It includes chronology, geography, effects of technology and cultural changes, plus an individual research project.

 

Economics:  Junior-Senior/Grades 11/12

This covers the basic “laws” of economics.  Graphing, surveys, and research are also used to illustrate “real world” results. It is often taught as a Distance Learning Class which originates in the Mitchell Public Schools Distance Learning Lab using Mitchell faculty.

 

World History 9th - 10th Grade

This encompasses the sweep of human experience from pre-historic times to about 1900.  Major cultural, geographic, political, economic, and social changes are included. 

 

Modern History 10th Grade

This course focuses on United States history in conjunction with major events around the world from approximately 1900 to present day. Events such as World War I, Great Depression, World War II, and the  Cold War are included.

 

Geography:  Freshman-Sophomore/Grades 9-10

This covers the areas of location, culture, map skills, graph and table reading skills, human/environment interaction and movement and migration. All continents and regions are covered except Antarctica.

 

Government 12th Grade

American Government involves the study of political foundations, principles of democracy, constitutional government, political processes, world affairs, citizenship, and the public good. 

 

Civics 8th Grade

This course includes the study of American Democracy, the United States Constitution, local, state, and national government, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. 

 

Psychology:  Junior-Senior/Grades 11-12

Psychology covers the areas of perception, motivation, and learning.  It is meant to be both an introductory class designed for students who are interested in the subject and a class for those thinking about pursuing a career that will require further classes at the college level.  Psychology is often taught as a Distance Learning Class which originates in the Mitchell Distance Learning Lab using Mitchell Public Schools faculty.  The class has recently included a field trip to the Wyoming Women's Center.

 

Junior High Careers 

This semester long class is designed to help young students begin to explore possible career fields.  The students study the free-enterprise system.  They develop a sense of individualism.  They study career clusters and individual career fields.  Short term and long term goals are discussed and career plans are developed.

 

7th Grade World History

This is a year long class that is designed to inform students about early civilizations.  Most of the empires are river systems based.  The Nile, the Indus, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers are emphasized.  Other cultures are also discussed, including the Greeks and the Romans.
