The special education staff
continues to grow! At this time, the Mitchell Elementary special
education resource staff consists of two classroom teachers, Carey
Brown and Kylie Bernhagen, along with five paraprofessionals.Miss
Bernhagen has worked closely with Director of Special Education Peggy
Romshek, school occupational therapist Ross Van Amburg, physical
therapist Doug Armstrong, and speech-language pathologist Jennifer
Splichal to develop a sensory room to better meet the needs of our
students.
The sensory room is designed to provide calming sensory experiences
that can help children more effectively focus on learning and play.
Children with sensory processing and neurological issues may include,
but are not limited to , those having autism spectrum disorders,
attention deficit disorder, or attention deficit disorder with
hyperactivity.
